Turkey gives Russia permission to use its waters for south stream

This means using the seabed for feasibility work, which may eventually lead to the south stream gas pipeline going through under the Turkish Black Sea.

The announcement was made by Turkish prime minister Erdogan in a joint press conference with visiting Russian PM Vladimir Putin in Ankara. Turkish Prime Minister has also announced that Turkey, Russia and Italy have agreed to build an oil pipeline from the Black Sea to the Mediterranean. the Samsun-Ceyhan oil pipeline will have a capacity of 70 million tons of oil per annum.

According to Putin and Erdogan, Ankara and Moscow have agreed to work on for a Russian consortium to build a nuclear power plant in Turkey. Russ'a's prime minister Putin said, "We have deepened our energy relationship. We will continue our work." Turkey and Russia have agreed to extend Blue Stream to third countries, including Israel, Syria, Lebanon and Cyprus. 

Turkey and Russia have also agreed to set up an intergovernmental committee to be chaired by both prime ministers and meet every year from 2010. Turkey and Russia have signed a total of 20 cooperation protocols and documents during Putin's visit.
